Spectacular! We need to get you in there with a dozen cameras, all synchronized, so you can have every angle covered and splice the footage together later. As for the selector motor, I think one is "where the car wants to be" and the other is "where the car is now", then something measures the displacement to determine the motor acceleration. If there's a big offset, it runs fast, then as it catches up, the offset decreases and so does the speed. I have no idea about these things, but if I had to design a high-speed mechanical control from scratch, that's what I'd do!

I never thought I would get to ride a westy with DMR control in my life, but turns out I did without knowing by riding these exact elevators. It's so cool to finally see the inner workings of of this thing.

Pure hardware. No software needed.

Mitsubishi also used this exact system for their high speed lifts up till the mid 70s. 4 years back, I managed to get into a bank of 6 DMR cars, but sadly the building was demolished not long afterwards

At the downtown Shillito's store in Cincinnati, they had 4 or 5 Selectomatics with the floor feature boxes that would change color as they scrolled thru the floors. The old L.S. Ayres downtown Indy, had several glass hall and car doors....it was too cool to watch passing cars......I'd sit there in the furniture dept, glued to those Otis'. it's funny our fascination with these things, that most people don't even think about......Keep the vids coming man. You do my traveling for me!

Very cool! This made me think of two places where I could never ride the elevators but I'd like to, the former Bullock's Wilshire in LA and the Chrysler Bldg. in NYC.

These are SMART keycarded. I wouldn't smart-keycard the hotel elevators because guests may experience issues and difficulties trying to tap the key to the reader before selecting a floor and also forcing crowded guests in elevators to wait extra time. This is why I prefer REGULAR keycards.

Recently went down here to film both elevators. I managed to get the Armor but I got caught by the Property Manager (who was magically there) at the Dover Elevator. Gonna press my luck later this week and hopefully this doesn’t happen again

I recall seeing the stacked contact blocks (silverstats?) being assembled in second floor F Aisle at Westinghouse East Pittsburgh plant when i worked there in the 70s.

It's almost frightening, the power supply, the tension in the cables. I'm glad I'm watching it, not standing there.
